Bilbao captain Guerrero announces retirement

MADRID, July 11 (Reuters) - Athletic Bilbao midfielder Julen Guerrero has announced his retirement after 14 years with the Primera Liga side.

The 32-year-old was the club captain and played more than 400 games for the Basque side.

Bilbao president Fernando Lamikiz said on Tuesday that Guerrero would stay at the club as a youth coach.

Guerrero has spent his whole career at Bilbao, joining the youth set-up when he was eight and making his debut in the first team at the age of 18 in September 1992.

He won 41 caps and played in the 1994 World Cup. He made his last appearance for the national side in a 1-1 draw against Austria in a World Cup qualifier in October 2000.
